Who is K.C. Harper
I believe meeting author, K.C. Harper, was yet another wonderful stroke of luck. It was after my Threads callout that I came upon the author herself, her captivating books, and her delightful profile. Her social media platforms lured me in with their vibrant graphics and romantic aura. It is obvious that each post on her profile is meticulously curated to reflect her passion for writing and her unique artistic taste. The author's generously rounded personality also shines through her posts brilliantly. Through these post you will see her humor, personality, relatability, and down-to-earth characteristics that are not only enjoyable, but also likable and genuinely refreshing.
After perusing through her social platforms, of course I had to scope out her author website. The design of her website is beautifully laid out making it very aesthetically pleasing and also very easy to navigate which makes it effortlessly functional. On her website, you can find a myriad of information, including but not limited too her most recent books, her editorial services, and how to get in contact with the author. I'm not sure how I hadn't come across K.C.'s books or profile prior to my call-out but as they say, "better late than never." I was so impressed and inspired by what I saw on her social media platforms and her website that I absolutely couldn't wait to jump into an interview with her and I think you, my readers, will be impressed as well, so let's dive in.
The Interview
Chapter Chirp: Tell me a little bit about yourself and how you decided to become an author?
K.C. Harper: I discovered the fantasy romance genre in my late twenties and began voraciously reading. From there, it kind of snowballed into me brainstorming. And eventually, in my mid-thirties, I decided to write. I had all these ideas, but didn’t know what to do with them. So I took a creative writing course at a local college to figure out how to plot, and build characters and make a story that flowed. From there, I wrote my first book. It took an entire year to complete, and after that I proceeded to write six total in that series. I wrote them all in isolation before I decided I wanted to try do something with them. In 2020, I started the process of querying to try and find a literary agent. Many rejections and three books later in 2022, I landed my agent.
Chapter Chirp: How long did it take you to write your most recent title and what was your inspiration for this book?
K.C. Harper: My most recent book, a contemporary romance with Harlequin (out August 12th), took about two and a half months to write from start to finish. The inspiration came after reading a book called SAY YOU SWEAR by Meagan Brandy. I absolutely fell in love with that book. I’d never written contemporary romance prior to that, but SAY YOU SWEAR just hit something for me that really made me want to try. I wanted to do a sports romance, and did some research and ended up loving the danger element of rally racing, which is where the brainstorming began.
Chapter Chirp: What is your favorite part of this book (i.e: character(s), theme, title, cover art, etc.) and why?
K.C. Harper: My favourite part of REAR VIEW is the MMC, Xavier. He’s an ex-con with a dark past, but he loves so, so powerfully, with everything he has. He’s protective, and dangerous in all the right ways. I loved writing his character, between his voice and mannerisms, he was a blast to bring to life.
Chapter Chirp: What was the most surprising thing that you learned while writing your most recent book and did you face any challenges while writing this title?
K.C. Harper: The most surprising thing I learned was how difficult it is to write a standalone novel. Up until writing REAR VIEW, I had never written a standalone novel before. I’d always done series. So having to wrap up a story within one book, was definitely a challenge for me. It took several rounds of edits in order to have my word count be reasonable, but I eventually managed. :)
Chapter Chirp: While writing your book, did you run into any challenges and how were you able to overcome said challenge(s)?
K.C. Harper: REAR VIEW has a bit of a suspense element to it, so I had to learn how not to veer too far into the suspense world so I didn’t end up genre jumping. Thankfully, I have my agent to help me sort those details so I didn’t veer too far of course.
Chapter Chirp: What’s next for you, can you share a sneak peek or drop some teasers about your next book?
K.C. Harper: My next book is another contemporary romance about a boxer and a contemporary dancer. It’s in second chance romance that morphs into enemies to lovers. It’s high angst, high emotion, and all of the feels.
Final Thoughts
My final thoughts are that K.C. Harper is a great example of why one should never give up on their dreams. If you keep pushing, work hard, and never take no for an answer, anything thing is achievable and K.C. did exactly that. In the end, my interactions with K.C. Harper have been nothing short of delightful. In addition to her sweet and engaging online presence, her literary talents make her a standout figure in the literary community, and I look forward to seeing where her journey takes her next.
