If I'm being honest, and I am because I'm a terrible liar, I am not normally a big reader of novellas. There are a few reasons for this but the main reason is because I find that stories shorter in length tend to leave much to be desired as far as storytelling depth goes. However, I did not feel this way when it came to Platirius: Infiltration, which is book one of the Platirius Trilogy. From the very beginning of the story, author D.L. Hannah, captures your interest and pulls you into a science fiction tale with a bit of a fantasy twist. For a novella, this narrative really packed a punch between its unique world building, the duality of its characters, and the themes it touches on. Novellas can oftentimes feel rushed or incomplete, like the author had a too many ideas to fit within the limited space provided.
This is simply not the case for this book, which combines a fresh narrative and a compelling story told with unique flair. The author, skillfully weaves intricate details into the fabric of this story with great attention to detail, therefore creating the opportunity for a memorable impression to linger in one's mind long after the final page has been turned. In finishing, while I may not typically gravitate toward novellas, D.L. Hannah’s Platirius: Infiltration has definitely changed my perspective. This book proves that a novella can provide a well crafted story with the right blend of world building, depth, and exploration, and that a shorter story can indeed have a big impact on its readers.
The Review
“Platirius Infiltration” is the first suspenseful sci-fi novella of the Platirius Trilogy which follows sisters and number one nemeses to each other Queen Revari and Queen Vivant as they co-reign in a tumultuous power struggle over the alien planet Platineous. The Queens can be described as yin and yang forces with Queen Revari being cold, calculating, and hardened, while on the other hand, Queen Vivant is warmer, kind, and softer. When devastation and misfortune strike, the balance of powers will shift but it’s anyone’s guess what will happen next. I loved that author, D. L. Hannah, wastes no time at diving into the devastating backstory and current goings on of the lives of the now Queens. There are generational struggles that are passed down from one generation the next that alter and mold the future of the generations to come. This story while shorter in length, does not lack in depth or detail. This book will grab you by the collar and fulfill its promise of bringing you on the wildest ride. You’ll encounter themes of rivalry, greed, power, deceit, and corruption that will leave you begging for more. I can’t wait to read book two and find out what happens next. I would recommend this to my fellow sci-fi readers!
