I can’t remember if I’ve said this already or if I’ve just thought it in my head (mom brain🤷‍♀️ it happens, don’t judge me), but so far my reading journey this year has consisted of so many knockout fantasy and romance reads, and The Book of Cin is one in particular that really stands out. There were so many elements presented in this story that I could gush about for days, but let’s just say a few key points include: my two favorite tropes, the always enticing enemies to lovers and the heartwarming element of found family, plus a high fantasy setting, and last but not least, the enchantment of magic! With that said, I am an absolute fan-girl over this story and I am literally fading away waiting for the next book “Blood Rains Down” to release.

The world building in this story is nothing short of extraordinary, as the author has crafted a rich and immersive world where the setting is not just a backdrop, but a living breathing part of the narrative. Then we have the characters, which I found to be well-developed, each with their own unique backgrounds, personalities, motivations, and arcs. The dynamic between the characters is one of my favorite pieces of the story, especially that of the main protagonists, whose journeys from hostility to affection is full of tension and chemistry, charged with emotion and palpable sparks. The enemies to lovers trope is perfection, and really showcases the complexities of their relationship as they learn to navigate their differences and how to trust one another. The found family aspect is also a winning part of the narrative, really illustrating the idea that family is not solely defined by blood but by the bonds that the characters create with each other. For this to be author H.M. Wolfe's debut novel, honestly my mind was blown, I loved every single minute of it and I can't wait to absolutely devour the next book.

The Review

“The Book of Cin”, a high fantasy novel centers on Hyacinth, an orphaned fae who is preparing for her “choice day” when everything she has ever known changes in the blink of an eye. I did NOT want this story to end! My mind is blown that this was author H. M. Wolfe’s debut novel. This story was absolutely 👏giving👏, there was found family, enemies to lovers, slow-burn romance, magic, gods, and mythical creatures. There were many lovable characters and even the ones that weren’t you could still love to hate. The settings were vivid and imaginative, drawing me to another world that evoked all the senses. The story packed a punch with themes of love, loss, corruption, betrayal, and friendship. I feel at a loss for words, what can I say except for go read this is you enjoy any of the above tropes, themes, or if you love the Romantasy genre. “The Book of Cin” will absolutely not disappoint and I really can’t wait for the next book to release, a war is brewing!
