Book titled "The Women on Platform Two" by Laura Anthony on marble surface with glasses and newspaper, evoking a calm reading setting.

Are you a lover of books based off of real life stories? I am, so obviously I had to jump on the giveaway for this book. The book's description begins with this blurb, "In 1970s Dublin, all forms of contraception are strictly forbidden, but an intrepid group of women will risk everything to change that in this sweeping, timely novel inspired by a remarkable and little-known true story." I was instantly reeled in and just had to read this book whether through a giveaway win or purchased on my own volition. Once I got the "winning" email I was literally stalking my informed delivery waiting for this one to arrive at my home.

Unfortunately life happens and I had to put reading this gem on hold for a bit but once I was able to sit down and read it, I tore through this story like a tornado. It was charming but also had me on an emotional rollercoaster for the ages. One minute I was cheering, the next minute I was on the verge of tears. This was such a profound story of the resilience, bravery, and courage about this group of women who risked everything in the name of their rights and the rights of other women. Not only was it an inspiring story but the fact that this was only fifty-five odd years ago shows that while we have come a long way in the realm of equality that there is still plenty of room for advancement.

The Review

ARC Review-

“The Women on Platform Two” is based on a true story about a group of women in Dublin, Ireland in the late 1960’s to early 1970’s who work together to form a women’s liberation group to fight for women’s rights to contraceptives. The book follows fictional characters Maura Flynn who marries Dr. Christopher Davenport and Bernie McCarthy who is a mother of three with a fourth on the way with her husband Dan, a butcher. Two women who originate as strangers with marriages and lives on opposite ends of the spectrum, wind up forming a fast friendship and bond that lasts the rest of their days. Throughout the story I felt moments of heartbreak, anger, but also hope and an uplifting narrative. The women in the story were courageous and bold, heroes in their own right. I fell in love in with this book and its characters. This is a definite recommend from me!
